Welcome to NENA!

Thank you for visiting the National Emergency Number Association’s home on the web. I hope that you find our site useful, informative, and easy to navigate. It is designed to provide you with a glimpse of the issues and projects important to NENA, with the goal of advancing emergency communications into the 21stcentury.

It is already more than forty years since the first 9-1-1 call was made. On that day, no one could have foreseen how important 9-1-1 would become to our country. While citizens do not wake up with the intention of calling 9-1-1 that day, it is instinctively the first place people turn to for help. The words, "9-1-1, what is your emergency?,” coming through a telephone receiver are often the first sign of hope in what may feel like a hopeless situation.

Today, the National Emergency Number Association, as it has been for nearly thirty years, is a vital part of the 9-1-1 community. By bringing together diverse and unique viewpoints from the public and private sectors, NENA has positioned itself at the forefront of emergency communications operations, including the related technology, education, and policy issues. Our team of members, committees, boards, allied organizations, corporate partners, and staff share their time, energy, and knowledge to make 9-1-1 work best for you.

NENA, like 9-1-1 itself, is all about people. We exist to improve emergency communications on both sides of the 9-1-1 call – for those in need of help, and by those whose job it is to provide efficient and effective emergency response. It is our mission to improve the quality of today’s 9-1-1 system, as well as shepherd the development of a highly functional, intuitive, interoperable "system of systems,” known as Next Generation 9-1-1, capable of handling and utilizing voice, video, and data to enable a more tailored response to every emergency. It is essential that today’s 9-1-1 centers have the advanced technology needed for staff to better serve 9-1-1 callers.

Thanks again for stopping by. Please keep in mind that we regularly update our site with the latest developments in the world of emergency communications, so be sure to visit us again soon.

Best Regards,
