CDC has issued Interim Guidance for Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Systems and 9-1-1 Public Safety Answering Points (PSAPs) for Management of Patients with Confirmed or Suspected Swine-Origin Influenza A (H1N1) Infection.

Several other valuable resources are available offering guidance in the current outbreak of H1N1 flu.

Specifically helpful to the 9-1-1 community is Preparing for Pandemic Influenza: Recommendations for Protocol Development for 9-1-1 Personnel and Public Safety Answering Points (PSAPs). Published in early 2007 and developed under the auspices of the U.S. Department of Transportation, this 9-1-1 specific guidance document’s creation included very active involvement of a number of NENA representatives and other 9-1-1 and EMS experts.

Also, various federal departments, agencies and partners are working together to provide additional guidance to EMS, First Responder and 9-1-1 communities.
