Jim Shepard, Vice President of Product Evolution for 911 Datamaster, to serve as Development Steering Council Co-Chair

NENA: The 9-1-1 Association today announced the appointment of Jim Shepard as Co-Chair of the organization’s Development Steering Council, the body that oversees NENA committees and working groups tasked with defining 9-1-1 technical and operations issues and developing the standards and best practices necessary to address them.

"I am excited for this opportunity to serve the association at such a critical juncture for 9-1-1,” said Shepard. "As we move towards Next Generation 9-1-1, the work done by NENA is more important than ever and will benefit 9-1-1, and the millions of citizens who depend on it annually, for decades to come.”

Along with fellow Co-Chair Pete Eggimann of the Minneapolis/St. Paul (MN) Metropolitan Emergency Services Board, Shepard will lead the DSC in coordinating all of NENA’s development work conducted by the association’s six standing committees (PSAP Operations; Agency Systems; Core Services; Interconnection and Security; Accessibility; and Public Education and PSAP Training) and one special purpose/limited duration committee (NG9-1-1 Transition Planning).

Shepard is the Vice-Chair for the NG9-1-1 Institute and previous served as the Chair for ATIS’ Emergency Services Interconnection Forum (ESIF). Most recently, he has led NENA’s NG9-1-1 Data Transition Working Group and is currently heading NENA’s Forest Guide Working Group.

"Jim’s dedication to public safety, extraordinary work ethic, and commitment to NENA’s mission make him an invaluable addition to our committee leadership team,” said NENA President, Bernard Brown. "His clear understanding of where 9-1-1 is now, where it needs to be, and, most importantly, how to get there will be invaluable as we strive to make NENA’s motto of ‘anytime, anywhere, any device’ a reality.”

In his current position at 911 Datamaster, Shepard works to help 9-1-1 authorities as well as carriers with the technical, operational, and regulatory challenges inherent in the migration to NG9-1-1. He previously worked as the Executive Vice President for HBF Group, where he managed all corporate operations for the development, deployment, and support of advanced E9-1-1 applications. He also worked as a Senior Manager in Deloitte Consulting’s Telecom group, where he provided technical and strategic consulting to numerous wireline, wireless, and data carriers.

NENA regularly rotates committee leadership, and Shepard assumes the role previously held by Tony Busam. "NENA thanks Tony for his outstanding leadership and service to the DSC. We look forward to his continued contributions to NENA's committee work and standards development.” said Brown.
