NENA Seeks Applicants for Full-Time Instructor Position

Training Instructor | Full-Time | Alexandria, VA (or Remote)

Responsibilities

1. Course Content Development & Delivery

The incumbent will be the primary NENA instructor for in-person courses, as well as a primary content developer for in-person and online courses. This necessitates a substantial knowledge and understanding of 9-1-1 and emergency communications, as well as strong written and verbal communication skills, experience in presentation creation and delivery, and the ability to engage and educate adult learners through a variety of methods and media. The incumbent will lead in the updating of existing course content and spearhead content development on new and emerging topics. The incumbent shall have the ability to lead and collaborate with diverse content-creation teams and possess the ability to coordinate numerous concurrent efforts via phone, email, web conferencing, and other means, sometimes outside of traditional working hours.

2. Product Management & Tracking

The incumbent shall manage, maintain, and update various NENA systems, databases, records, and reports including but not limited to: The NENA Education Online Training Portal, portions of the NENA website, NENA’s invoicing system, course reports, expense reports, and course evaluations. The timely completion of these reports and the accurate maintenance of related records is essential to effective job performance.

3. Additional Content Development

The NENA instructor will have the responsibility of providing website, magazine, and social media content as identified by the incumbent and the Communications Director.

4. General

The incumbent will engage in a significant amount of overnight travel, accounting for approximately 75% of his or her schedule. A valid U.S. passport must be maintained during employment for potential international travel. Additionally, the incumbent will develop working relationships with NENA staff, students, and members of organizations that purchase or host NENA training programs or participate in course development and/or delivery. The incumbent must keep confidential NENA’s business practices and strategies, student performance, and the activities of the NENA Education and Training Program. Additional tasks and duties may be assigned to this position at the discretion of the CEO or Education Director. This incumbent will report to the Education Director.

Minimum Qualifications

The successful candidate will meet each of the following minimum qualifications:

1. Possess and maintain his or her Emergency Number Professional (ENP) certification;

2. Possess experience in a PSAP as a telecommunicator, supervisor, CTO, manager or director;

3. Possess strong knowledge of operations and technical systems, processes, concepts, standards, best practices, policies, and procedures;

4. Possess experience in in-person and online course development, delivery, and maintenance;

5. Demonstrate excellent presentation and communication skills, both written and verbal;

6. Possess certification as a trainer/instructor from a recognized organization, such as NENA, POST, IAED, or APCO, or possess a degree in adult education from an accredited institution of higher learning;

7. Be self-guided, self-directed, and self-motivated;

8. Possess strong organizational skills; and

9. Demonstrate the capacity to identify and implement new learning systems and teaching methodologies as the needs of students and the organization evolve.

Preference will be given to candidates who have successfully completed NENA’s CMCP, and/or hold a bachelor’s degree (or higher) in public safety telecommunications, adult education, public safety management, or related fields.

Location, Pay, & Benefits

The preferred location for this position is at NENA Headquarters in Alexandria, VA. However, NENA will consider applicants for a remote/telecommunicating arrangement. Relocation expenses will not be paid. Travel to locations of NENA courses as well as NENA events will be required. Overnight travel will comprise approximately (75%) of the annual workload of this position. Travel expenses will be reimbursed on an actual expenditure basis, subject to prior management approval. Job responsibilities are "full-time” and will be compensated on an annual salary basis with twice-monthly pay to be determined by the CEO based on the selected applicant’s qualifications and experience. This position is eligible for standard benefits that may include vacation and sick leave; medical, dental, and vision insurance; and eligibility to participate in the Association’s 401(k) retirement plan.
