Senators Nelson (D-FL) and Klobuchar (D-MN) have released draft legislation that would make the transition to NG9-1-1 a national priority on the heels of NENA's members meeting with Congressional leaders at 9-1-1 Goes to Washington, as well as The Hill's publication of an op-ed by NENA's CEO.
As the ANSI-accredited standards development organization that authored the consensus standards for NG9-1-1 architecture and security, NENA is pleased to see the draft legislation emphasize a standards-based approach to deploying this safety-critical technology.
NENA, a founding member of the NG9-1-1 Now Coalition, is gratified to see that the text of this bill closely tracks with the Coalition’s efforts, as well as NENA's recommendations for deploying nationwide NG9-1-1 that were first filed with the FCC almost five years ago. NENA is grateful to Senators Nelson and Klobuchar for listening to the voice of our members and releasing this draft that will ensure 9-1-1 authorities have access to the capital necessary to fully implement NG9-1-1.
