NENA Statement on March 8 9-1-1 Outage

NENA is aware of widespread reports of some 9-1-1 callers receiving fast busy signals. We are working closely with government and industry partners to understand the scope and causes of this outage. Many customers may not experience difficulty. However consumers experiencing difficulty calling 9-1-1 in an actual emergency should search for a local 7- or 10-digit emergency number. Text-to-9-1-1 may also be available in some jurisdictions. This significant and unfortunate outage highlights the immediate need to transition America's 9-1-1 centers to robust and resilient "Next Generation 9-1-1" technology. NG9-1-1 can intelligently route around outages, redirect calls to other regions, or use backup facilities in ways that legacy E9-1-1 systems cannot.
