Today, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) adopted a Notice of Inquiry and launched an examination into the 9-1-1 capabilities of enterprise communications systems which serve office buildings, educational campuses and hotels.

“For far too long, workers, guests, residents, and patients in our offices and factories, hotels, dormitories, and hospitals have faced unnecessary barriers to effective 9-1-1 access,” said Trey Forgety, NENA’s Director of Government Affairs. “In a time of emergency, anyone who picks up a telephone should expect to dial 9-1-1, reach a trained public safety professional, be automatically located, and be quickly reached by field responders. Today, however, that is often not the reality. NENA is hopeful that this NOI is the first step in a process to finally resolve these challenges.”
