The 9-1-1 Puzzle: Putting All the Pieces Together
Category: Learning the Ropes
Instructor(s): Craig Whittington, ENP

Whether your community is in the early stages of implementing 9-1-1, or you are new to the PSAP, the telecommunications industry, or any level of government, this course will introduce you to the core elements of the 9-1-1 system and help you understand the critical issues facing public safety today. Attendees will learn about the external systems and technologies that carry a call for help to the 9-1-1 center, as well as internal mechanisms within the PSAP that contain, deliver, and display critical caller information to the telecommunicator.

The class covers essential PSAP and public safety communications topics and connects them, helping participants understand the 9-1-1 system and its many challenges. By applying a "common sense” approach to the world of emergency communications, students will gain a fundamental knowledge of the diverse technological and operational aspects of the 9-1-1 system.
