Representatives came from as far as Canada and Australia to take part in NENA’s Industry Collaboration Event, which completed on Thursday, Nov 5. This testing event was established to support interoperability testing by and between participating vendors, and does not imply NENA approval of the vendor products involved.   The importance of vendor interoperability was emphasized through vendor to vendor testing and results, which included test call flow through components from multiple vendors, operating as a single 9-1-1 processing system.  The ICE-1 experience moves NENA forward toward the next round of NG9-1-1 interoperability and standards testing.

All vendors that participated gained significant insight into product enhancements necessary to achieve interoperability, both between system components and between NG9-1-1 systems.  As such, they are in an excellent position to evolve their products to achieve this fundamental NG9-1-1 goal.  NENA encourages the vendors to include these enhancements in future product releases and looks forward to 2010 testing that will yield data to formally gauge product interoperability and NG9-1-1 standards compliance, which this initial event did not attempt to capture.
