Vigo County (IN) 911’s Executive Director, Rob McMullen, ENP, begins term as NENA President

On June 7, at the NENA 2017 Conference and Expo, Rob McMullen, ENP was sworn in as President of NENA: The 9-1-1 Associations Board of Directors. He now leads the organizations more than 12,000 members in advancing NENAs mission to improve 9-1-1 through research, standards development, training, education, outreach, and advocacy.

After being sworn in, Mr. McMullen addressed the NENA membership and put forward his goals for the coming year. Notably, he spoke about a key function of the association in the technical evolution of Americas 9-1-1 centers. “NENA has a leadership role to play in making sure that the best and brightest minds in the world who are developing cutting-edge public safety products and services are doing so with the needs of 9-1-1 center operations in mind,” he said.

Also, McMullen underscored the need to give 9-1-1 call takers the tools they need to best serve the public. “I manage my countys PSAP, but my heart will always that of a dispatcher. Ill never forget my time in the trenches taking the calls,” he said. “I want to make sure our dispatchers have the training and resources they need and deserve, and are recognized as a vital part of the emergency response chain.”

Mr. McMullen has worked in 9-1-1 for nearly two decades, working his way up from frontline dispatcher taking 9-1-1 calls, to communications center director overseeing a team of nearly thirty as Executive Director of Vigo County (IN) 911.

McMullen served as the President of the Indiana chapter in 2008. For the national organization, he was previously a member of the Public Education & PSAP Training Committee, Chair of the Devices and Sensors Working Group, and a Cochair of the Contingency Planning Subcommittee

McMullen holds Bachelors of Science degree in Criminology from Indiana State University and is a NENA-certified Emergency Number Professional (ENP).
