<title>NENA Seeks Participants for ICE 5: Emergency Services for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing</title>

<description><![CDATA[NENA is now accepting proposals and requests to participate for the next NG9-1-1 interoperability Industry Collaboration Event (ICE). ICE 5 will focus on emergency services for the deaf and hard-of-hearing community. With standards work ongoing and evolving and considering the wide variety of technologies, services, and protocols related to this accessibility issue, vendors are encouraged to submit proposals regarding what they would like to test. Any suggestion will be considered. For example, testing could focus on a solution for handling text messages within the i3 context, or a method for efficiently sending video using NG9-1-1 call routing techniques.<br><br><span style="font-weight: bold; ">Please respond before December 31</span>, as the ICE team would like to begin planning in January for an anticipated summer 2012 event.<br><br>You may provide all comments and responses to&nbsp;<a href="mailto:nate@wilcoxss.com" target="_blank" title="ICE 5">Nate Wilcox</a>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<a href="mailto:dmarnold@verizon.net" target="_blank" title="ICE 5">Delaine Arnold</a>. <title>NENA Sponsors Successful Multi-Vendor Next Generation 9-1-1 Interoperability Testing Event</title>

<description><![CDATA[<div style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-style: italic; font-size: 12pt; ">Call routing and location validation the focus
of NENA’s ICE 4</span><br></div><div><br></div>The National Emergency Number Association (NENA) recently brought together
twenty-two leading companies in the public safety space for an Industry
Collaboration Event (ICE) where participants tested the location-based emergency
call routing elements at the core of Next Generation 9-1-1 systems. Known as
the Location to Service Translation (LoST) hierarchy, this functionality is
essential to ensure reliable and predictable emergency call routing and related
location validation regardless of the media type (e.g., voice, text) or device
used to place a 9-1-1 request for assistance. &nbsp;<div><br></div><div>"Whether
we are talking about legacy 9-1-1 systems or the IP-based systems of tomorrow,
accurate location information will always be the linchpin to effective
emergency response,” said NENA President Rick Galway, ENP. "NENA is proud to
provide a space for all relevant players to come together in an open,
collaborative atmosphere to test the products and services that will enable
intelligent call routing and provide 9-1-1 professionals and first responders
with this truly essential data in a Next Generation 9-1-1 environment.”&nbsp;</div><div><br></div><div>This
largest and most technically complex ICE to date, hosted at the AT&amp;T Center
for Learning in Irving, TX, culminated in a successful multi-vendor testing
process that provided increased awareness and recognition of the requirements,
interactions, and protocols necessary for interoperable call routing. The nearly
two-dozen participant organizations evaluated multi-vendor interaction between
Emergency Call Routing Functions and related processes, and "real world” simulations
of varied call routing situations and environments yielded valuable insights
into the level of specification called for in the requirements. &nbsp;</div><div><br></div><div>Additional

<title>FCC - First Test of The Emergency Alert System</title>

<description><![CDATA[On February 2, 2011, the Federal Communications Commission (the Commission) amended its Part 11 rules governing the Emergency Alert System (EAS) to provide for national testing of the EAS and the collection of data from such tests. Newly amended section 11.61(a)(3)(iii) of the Commission rules states in relevant part: "Notice shall be provided to EAS Participants by the Commission at least two months prior to the conduct of any … national test.” The Commission hereby provides notice to all EAS participants that <span style="font-weight: bold;">the first nationwide test of the EAS will occur on November 9, 2011, at 2 PM EST.</span>]]></description>
