2:15PM | 50th Anniversary of 9-1-1: Greetings From Alabama

2:45PM | Working with Congressional Staff – A Committee Perspective | Personal, committee, leadership, professional – there are many types of staff on Capitol Hill, so it’s important to know how they differ and how best to work with each. This session will provide insights into how congressional committees work, and how you can best work with committee staff to effect change.

3:30PM | FCC Public Safety Bureau Keynote | Each new Chair of the FCC brings along new Bureau leadership to help enact their vision and agenda. In 2017, Chairman Ajit Pai named Lisa Fowlkes to head the Public Safety and Homeland Security Bureau. In these formal remarks, Chief Fowlkes will introduce herself to the 9-1-1 community, and discuss her plans for the Bureau’s work.

5:00PM | NG9-1-1 Institute Reception | Each year, the NG9-1-1 Institute recognizes “9-1-1 Heroes” for their outstanding achievements in fields as diverse as legislative leadership and citizen-in-action. Join us as members of Congress, executive branch leaders, and prominent members of the 9-1-1 community present these prestigious awards. Drinks and light refreshments will be provided.

7:30AM | Legislative Briefing Breakfast | In the most important session of 9-1-1 Goes to Washington, NENA’s Director of Government Affairs & Information Security Issues will provide a detailed brief on NENA’s 2018 Legislative Priorities.

8:15AM | NG911 Now Coalition Update | NENA is not going-it-alone on NG9-1-1 funding! In this panel, we’ll discuss our coordinated, industry-wide effort to advance legislation with our coalition partners, NASNA and iCERT.

9:00AM | Head to the Hill | Attendees are encouraged to schedule congressional office visits for 9:45AM or later.

12:00PM | NG9-1-1 Institute Technology Showcase | While on the Hill, stop by the NG9-1-1 Institute Technology Fair for a lunch-and-learn session with members of congress, congressional staff, and a technology showcase featuring new products and services in the NG9-1-1 space.

5:30PM | Hill Recap Social | Rejoin your #NENAGTW colleagues to discuss the outcomes of congressional meetings, report on any requested follow-up, and help NENA plan further congressional engagements. Refreshments will be provided.

9:15AM | Reclassification Post-Mortem | Learn about the Office of Management and Budget’s recent decision not to reclassify telecommunicators and dispatchers into the “Protective Services” major category, and what you can do to help the Department of Labor make a positive recommendation during the next revision cycle.

9:45AM | FCC Update | Staff from the Public Safety and Homeland Security Bureau will present on the status of new and long-pending issues in the 9-1-1 space, including a recent Notice of Inquiry on Enterprise Calling Systems (formerly known as “multi-line telephone systems”).

10:45AM | National 911 Office Update | Laurie Flaherty, Director of the National 911 Office, will provide an overview of activities including the NG9-1-1 progress data-gathering effort and the much-anticipated NG9-1-1 Cost Study.

11:30AM | House Energy & Commerce Subcommittee Public Safety Hearing Recap

12:00PM | Google Emergency Location Service Conversation | Device-based hybrid location determination is enabling faster, more-precise location determination for mobile devices. Learn how Google, RapidSOS, West, and other members of the location ecosystem are bringing this new technology to market.

12:45PM | Networking Lunch | A buffet lunch will be provided.

2:00PM | Remarks of Chairman Ajit Pai, FCC | Chairman Pai will address GTW attendees on his agenda for the FCC and commemorate the 50th Anniversary of the first 9-1-1 call.

2:30PM | 9-1-1: Fifty Years Strong | Hear from pioneers of 9-1-1 as they discuss seminal events in the deployment of our nation’s universal emergency telephone number.

4:00PM | Program Ends | Participants are invited to rest and freshen-up while hotel staff prepare our space for a special 50th Anniversary Reception.

6:00PM | 50th Anniversary Celebration | Join us for drinks, dancing, and hors d’oeuvres as we celebrate the first ever 9-1-1 call at one of DC's coolest venues, Dirty Habit at the Kimpton Hotel Monaco. Transportation will be provided.
