The Hall of Fame member category is the second highest honor that may be conferred by NENA.
Designation as a Hall of Fame Member of NENA shall be conferred upon those members who have made a significant and recognized contribution toward the objectives of this Association or to the advancement of the 9-1-1 profession. Criteria for selection:
The Hall of Fame award cannot be purchased; it must be earned. To be eligible for Hall of Fame membership, a person should be so outstanding that there can be no question about their suitability, and meet the criteria outlined below.
- Officer Nominees
Special consideration shall be given to any member who has served a full term as President, or at least four (4) years on the Board of Directors of NENA - Non-Officer Nominees
Special consideration shall also be given to any member who has served at least four (4) years as chair of a NENA committee. - Staff and Contractor Nominees
Current or former NENA employees and contractors may be considered for Hall of Fame designation based solely on their contributions beyond the scope of their respective position or contract requirements, and shall receive no special consideration. - All Nominees
Notwithstanding the special consideration given to officer nominees and certain non-officer nominees, each member who is actually nominated will be evaluated against each of the other criteria established below:- The nominee must be a member in good standing with NENA, or a decreased member, having no unpaid financial obligations to the Association
- The nominee should, but need not, hold or have held the ENP certification, or a professional certification of equal dignity in a related field.
- The nomination should reflect the contribution of the nominee in se, rather than that of an individual representing the accomplishments of many.
- The nomination should reflect the nominee's contributions, their importance, and their long-term value to the Association and its objectives, and to the advancement of the public safety emergency communications profession at a national or international level.
- The designation of the individual as a "Hall of Fame Member" should, if conferred, reflect honor upon both the member and NENA.
- Evidence of the nominee's contributions may include, but is not limited to, document activities such as:
- Chapter leadership or active participation in chapter events;
- Committee or work group leadership;
- Leadership or active participation or in national NENA or other industry events as a speaker, panelist, or moderator;
- Active participation or leadership as a Board member of the NENA Institute (NIB), or NENA Education Advisory Board (EAB); or
- Other activities or contributions at the international, national, regional, state or local level(s) that have demonstrated long-term significance to the betterment of the Association and advancement of the profession.
- Nomination
A complete nomination packet shall consist of the following:- A letter of nomination detailing why the nominee meets the selection criteria detailed above;
- A listing of the nominee's name and present position, including title, agency or company, email and mailing addresses, and telephone number;
- A resume or short biographical profile of the nominee's career; and
- Any other documentation that the nomination member believes to demonstrate that the nominee meets the selection criteria.
- Individuals designated as Hall of Fame Members shall presented at the Annual Conference.
Hall of Fame Benefits:
- Each Hall of Fame winner shall:
- be permanently exempt from the payment of annual membership dues,
- and shall receive two (2) complimentary registrations for Annual Conference,
- and shall receive a Hall of Fame plaque and lapel pin,
- and shall be listed on the Association's website.
- Such members may also request complimentary copies of the Associations official publication, and may receive invitations to special conference events.
- Submitting Nominations/Selection
- Nominations for award must be submitted between January 15th and March 31st.
- The Board of Directors will consider complete nomination packets in a executive session of a regularly-called meeting at a time appropriate to the award.
- No award is required to be presented in any given year.
- If the Board elects to bestow an award, then it shall so note in its minutes omitting the recipient's name until the awardee is notified.
- Having selected a recipient, the Board shall notify the nominating member, and may further notify the recipient and/or family members and others of significance to the recipient so that they may attend the presentation.
